The Keepers Learn Etiquette

Today was an interesting day in Keepers. Instead of focusing on a crafting art, we focused on the art of etiquette.

A Growing Group

Our group sure is growing! We started out the year with 27 girls and we are now up to a little over 40. It is awesome to see these girls come together.

Table Decor

One of our activities today was to teach the girls how to decorate a table. We showed them how to create a centerpiece, how to space out their decor, and to fill in the spaces.

Which Fork?

Next, we taught the girls how to create a formal place setting. The girls had great fun guessing how many forks, plates, and cups you actually use. (Please excuse the poor drawing, no one said we were good artists!)

Napkin, Anyone?

A proper table setting isn’t complete without a napkin. The girls had a great time learning how to create these fun shapes with their napkins. (We also encouraged them to think about setting aside money as a linen investment; it isn’t cheap!)

Mr. Turkey

I couldn’t resist taking a shot of this little man. He was coming to help mommy pick up his sisters. I thought his hat was so adorable. It was the perfect ending to our day.

I confess I was a little anxious about today’s meeting. What if the girls didn’t like what I had planned? What if it was too much talk and not enough action?

There was nothing for me to be concerned about. The girls had a blast and so did I!

It was a blessing to see them get excited about table decor. It was sweet to see their amazed faces when they learned a proper table setting has three or more forks. It was pure fun to see their napkin experiments.

I had great fun doing research for this event. Learning the ins and outs of being a good hostess is not for weaklings. If you happened to be interested in teaching some etiquette lessons (or just beefing up on your own), here are some resources you might like to check out:

We ended the session as usual, with an excellent snack and secret sisters.

While I may have been the one teaching this event, it really helped me to gear up for my own class. Next Tuesday we are having a special guest out to teach us ladies some tricks of the trade when it comes to being a hostess. I can’t wait!
