King of Kings

Whats_in_a_NameWhat’s in a name? A name is more than just something by which we are called; in a sense, it is our reputation. Did you know there are a multitude of names for God?

Each name unique and powerful; the list is endless. Join us on this exciting adventure through Scripture, where we will learn some amazing verses, talk about how those verses should affect our lives, and discuss some practical ways to make these names “real”.

……

“And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’”

~ Revelation 19:16

Humans seem to have a fascination with royalty. We like to watch them, emulate them, and own a piece of them. We get caught up in the lifestyles of those whose lives seem slightly above our own; a station we can only dream of obtaining. Here in Revelation, we are reminded Christ is King. Not only is He a King, but the King of all kings. There is no one He looks up to, admires, or emulates. He is the end all, be all, of royalty.

Devotion – As the King of all, God has power over everyone and everything. The heavens declare His glory and the world is His handiwork. He has but to speak and immediately things happen. Now, what earthly king can say the same?

What makes this even more special, is that while He has power to command, He still wants us to choose Him. He will not force Himself upon us or insist we love Him. He wishes for us to come to Him on our own; loving Him of our own free will. Wow; the King of kings wants me!

If Christ is the King of all kings, what does this mean for me? Well, if I have accepted His
awesome gift of love and believe in His redeeming grace, this makes me royalty, too! When we accept Christ as our Savior, we become a part of His family; we become His children. If He is the King of kings, then, my friend, we become princes and princesses. I guess I can keep the tiara!

Activity – As usual, we want to bring this home for our kids, so we’ll spend time talking about royalty and crowns. We’ll discuss our relationship with the King of all and how much our King loves us. Then, set about some crafting….

Apple-Cinnamon Ornaments

1 cup apple sauce
1 cup cinnamon

parchment paper
string
pencil/stick
glitter glue or other embellishments

Mix equal portions of each ingredient (use more if you plan to make more ornaments, but the amount shown will actually make quite a bit). Roll out dough onto parchment paper; using cookie cutters, make shapes with dough; using straw or pencil, poke hole for ribbon to fit through; allow ornaments to dry either overnight or in an oven on low temperature (we used 300º). Once ornaments are dry, decorate and hang!

For our ornaments, we’ll use a crown cookie cutter. It fits into our lesson and makes the event more fun. The house will smell lovely! We usually end up making more than anticipated, so we’ll give some away to family as well.

Prayer – God, our King, we give You all honor and glory. May You rule in our hearts always, and be the leader of our lives. Amen

  1. I love making cinnamon ornaments. We just made a batch yesterday. I used a different applesauce this time and didn’t have much luck. Very sticky when rolling out after 24+ hours in fridge. I’m also afraid we rolled them too thin this time–1/4″. What applesauce do you use and how thick did you make yours?

    • Oh, no; I’m sorry.

We usually buy store-brand apple sauce, or whatever is one sale. I’m not particular, as we aren’t eating it.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. I also never leave them in the fridge. I mix the batch, slowly adding apple sauce until the desires texture, and then get started on the rolling fun. I’ve never found refrigerating to be necessary. But that’s just me. We roll ours at approximately 1/2″ thick, we find it works best.
